On 20 September 2019, Maup Hoppzak retired, after 41.5 years of working as a maritime (hull) surveyor. Despite his retirement, he remains active in his field as a consultant, arbitrator (including for UNUM, ex Tamara and NAI) and legal expert for tribunals and arbitrators. Maup is registered in the LRGD and will continue to teach courses in assistance and salvage.
From 1 October 2019, Maup Hoppzak will also offer his services as a freelance surveyor for Marinco Survey BV, part of the V+B Group, which also includes the Rotterdam-based survey company Verschoor & Bras BV.
Maup started in 1978 as a junior surveyor at D. Touw Expertise- en Ingenieursbureau BV, became a co-shareholder in 1988 and in 1995 became the general manager of this company, which had offices in Rotterdam, Rotterdam-Maasvlakte, Amsterdam, Groningen and New York. In 2012, D. Touw Expertise- en Ingenieursbureau BV together with Binnendijk-Bree BV were taken over by DEKRA Experts.
Maup Hoppzak has been a board member of VESW, BCE and NIVRE, branch Shipping and Technical, and in addition to work for underwriters, has carried out various assignments for the Dutch government and the European Union.
