Damage to the wheelhouse of an inland vessel
A push boat had to pass under a traffic bridge to shift an empty barge. The liftable wheelhouse was in the highest position, the bridge could normally be passed without any problem. However, the skipper had not taken into account the high water level, which caused the wheelhouse to hit the road bridge.
The complete aluminium superstructure of the wheelhouse was broken towards the rear. We were appointed by hull & machinery insurers. In order to remain in service until a new wheelhouse superstructure was available (delivery time approx. 6 to 7 months) and to protect vulnerable navigation equipment against the weather, an emergency repair was carried out. The final repairs were closely monitored by us and the final repair costs were discussed and agreed with the shipping company and the yard.
